CH.01

The trapezoid does the talking

Every curb profile is a trapezoid: cross-sectional area equals (top width + base width) ÷ 2 × height. Multiply that area by the run in feet for cubic feet, divide by 27 for cubic yards. A 6×6 slant profile works out to about 0.21 square feet of asphalt per linear foot.

  • Area = (top + base) ÷ 2 × height
  • Volume = area × linear feet
  • 6×6 slant ≈ 0.21 ft² per LF

Five profiles, one formula

Slant-face for lots, square for edging, mower-edge for lawns, D-shape for driveways, barrier for traffic control — the profile changes the cross-section, never the method. Pick the profile, measure the run, and the same trapezoid math produces the tonnage.

From linear feet to truckloads

Curb tonnage surprises people: 850 feet of 6×6 slant is over 13 tons of hot mix. Convert volume with the mix density, add 5% for waste and machine cleanout, and round to truckload increments so the extruder never starves mid-run.
